The way Spirit communicates with us is deeply personal. We all have the capacity to receive divine guidance, but it comes through in different ways. These psychic senses are known as the Clairs—from the French word “clair,” meaning “clear.”

Understanding your dominant Clair is like finding your spiritual love language. It's the key that helps you recognize when Spirit is speaking and how to interpret what’s being said.

Let’s explore all 8 of them—plus how they show up in real life and in my own intuitive journey.

• Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing 👁️

This is the ability to receive intuitive messages in the form of visual imagery. You might see pictures in your mind's eye, have vivid dreams, or receive symbolic flashes during meditation. Clairvoyants are often drawn to art, aesthetics, or storytelling because they process the world through imagery.

There are people who have this ability and don't know it.
There are people who have this ability and do know it.
And then there are people who don’t have it.
I was part of the first group—I had the ability but didn’t know it.

I used to get visions and symbolic dreams, but I had no idea how to summon them, so to speak. I didn’t even know it was a “thing.” It wasn’t until I took a class that I discovered this was clairvoyance. And let me tell you—by session three, I was flying out the gate.

The thing is, clairvoyance isn’t even my most dominant gift. I mostly receive information in other ways, so all this visual stuff was confusing. It was like I had pieces of the puzzle but didn’t understand how they fit. Once I opened the floodgates and allowed myself to develop this gift intentionally, it was like everything started to click. I could suddenly work with multiple Clairs at once—and the clarity that brought was next level.

• Clairaudience – Clear Hearing 👂

Clairaudience is the ability to receive messages through sound. It can show up as words, music, tones, or guidance you “hear” in your head.

Now, I used to think I didn’t have this gift. I was waiting for some external voice to speak to me, like in the movies. But that’s not how it works for most people. The voice I hear sounds like mine, but it’s definitely not me. It's calmer, wiser, and often delivers insights that surprise even me.

People who have strong clairaudience and can hear distinct voices from others—especially spirits—are often mediums. These gifted individuals can literally carry conversations with souls who’ve passed on. It’s truly incredible. But clairaudience doesn’t always sound like someone else—it can feel like an inner voice you can’t ignore.

• Clairsentience – Clear Feeling 🫶

This is one of my most dominant abilities. If you’ve ever been called “too sensitive,” this might be yours too.

Clairsentience is the ability to feel other people’s emotions, energies, or even physical sensations. I can walk into a room and read it—the unspoken stuff, the tension, the openness. It’s also why people are drawn to me, and why I can captivate and connect with them easily. I just get how they feel.

But here’s the thing: sometimes it wrecks my body. Like the time I picked up on someone’s energy before I even met them. My body felt off for days, and I didn’t understand why until I finally encountered them and bam—everything made sense.

If this is your dominant Clair, daily energetic grounding is vital. Without it, you can become a sponge for everyone else’s energy—and that gets disorienting fast.

• Claircognizance – Clear Knowing 💡

This is my other dominant ability—and it took me years to understand it. I used to think I was just “smart.” I’d say things about people or situations that felt like truth, but I couldn’t explain how I knew. I’d drop into conversations and just say things that made people stop in their tracks.

Nope—it wasn’t just intelligence. It was infinite intelligence moving through me. Claircognizance is when Spirit sends you complete downloads. It’s like receiving a data packet that instantly unpacks as you speak, write, or teach. It often shocks people—including me—with how accurate it is.

• Clairalience – Clear Smelling 👃

This one shows up a lot in mediums. They’ll suddenly smell a loved one’s perfume, cigar smoke, or the scent of a place connected to the spirit who’s visiting. I don’t get this often, but when I do—it’s wild.

Sometimes, I’ll smell or taste something before I experience it. And I’ve learned: if I smell or taste something displeasing, I better rethink what I’m about to do.

One time, I smelled feces for three straight days. I cleaned my shoes, my floors, everything. I kept checking myself and asking others if they smelled it—nothing. It drove me nuts. Then, on the third day, I boarded a plane and just as the doors closed, the last person to enter sat down next to me… and he smelled exactly like what I’d been smelling. It all made sense. Spirit had been prepping me so I wouldn’t freak out mid-flight. Thankfully, the seat next to me was empty and I moved over—crisis (and confrontation) averted.

• Clairgustance – Clear Tasting 👅

Clairgustance is the psychic ability to taste something without having it in your mouth. It’s often tied to spirit communication, ancestral memory, or future experiences your energy is already preparing for. It might seem like an odd ability—but when it happens, it’s unmistakable.

Clairgustance and clairalience (clear smelling) are psychic siblings, and for some of us, they show up before the actual experience does. I mentioned earlier how I sometimes smell or taste things ahead of time—and let me tell you, this ability taught me a major lesson one Sunday night.

I was driving down the highway, starving. It was late, and I was still relatively new to my vegan lifestyle, so I was open to exploring different spots. Suddenly, this God-awful taste hit my mouth—just gross. Bitter, metallic, unpleasant. But I didn’t connect the dots at first. I brushed it off as maybe some lingering taste or just hunger playing tricks.

Still, I was committed to trying something new. I pulled off the road into this little restaurant with a quirky name. It had that “hippie vegan” vibe, so I figured I just hadn’t caught on to the lifestyle culture yet.

I looked at the menu, went safe, and ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup—how bad could that be, right? Classic combo. Thirty minutes later, back at home with food in front of me… y’all. It was the worst food I have ever eaten in my life.

It tasted exactly like that nasty sensation I’d had in my mouth earlier in the car. I couldn’t believe it. It was like Spirit had warned me and I didn’t listen. Lesson learned: trust your gifts, even the subtle ones. That “bad taste” wasn’t random—it was guidance.

Now, anytime I get a sudden taste or smell that feels off, I pay close attention to what I’m doing, where I’m going, and what I’m about to say yes to. Because sometimes your guides are showing you what your mind hasn’t caught up to yet.

• Clairtagency – Clear Touch / Clear Action 🖐️

Clairtagency is the intuitive gift of receiving psychic information through touch or action. It’s when Spirit moves through your body—not just your mind.

This shows up in a few powerful ways:

• • Feeling pulled to go somewhere or do something without a logical reason
  • Moving your hands to a certain part of someone’s body during a healing session
  • Picking up an object and suddenly receiving a flood of impressions or emotional insight
  • Automatically writing, drawing, or creating without knowing where it's coming from

For some, this is part of their mediumship gift—they can receive information just by touching a personal item, like a photograph, piece of jewelry, or letter. This is known as psychometry, and it’s part of the broader spectrum of clairtagency.

I’ve seen this gift activate in bodyworkers, massage therapists, and Reiki healers. Their hands are drawn to places on the body that need healing—without being told. And often, they receive messages or images during the process.

In my own practice, I’ve felt the strong urge to move, write, or shift the energy in a certain space before I understood why. That’s Spirit guiding me through motion. The beauty of clairtagency is that it’s deeply embodied—it reminds us that intuitive knowing doesn’t always come through words or thoughts. Sometimes, your body is the channel.

• Clairintellect – Clear Understanding 🧠

Clairintellect is the psychic ability to receive fully formed concepts, systems, or ideas—complete downloads that come from your Higher Self, Spirit, or divine intelligence. It’s the kind of insight that doesn’t require thinking in a linear, step-by-step way. Instead, it arrives whole, like a sudden remembering of truth.

Unlike claircognizance (which is more gut-level and instinctual), clairintellect feels like divine knowledge being delivered to your conscious mind with such clarity, you can’t unsee it. And even though it's not as widely talked about yet, it’s very real—and becoming more common as collective consciousness evolves.

You might find yourself understanding systems you’ve never studied, or explaining a concept that wasn’t previously in your vocabulary. This Clair shows up especially in people who are educators, innovators, and visionaries.

Let me break it down, because there seem to be two primary ways this gift expresses itself:

• • Rare, Life-Changing Downloads 🦄

For some, this gift shows up once or twice in a lifetime—but when it does, it’s monumental.

These people receive an entire body of knowledge, a framework, or a spiritual teaching that becomes the foundation of their life’s work. They may go on to write books, launch healing modalities, or develop systems that shift culture. They could also be innovators who revolutionize how people do things—in spirituality, science, education, or art. It’s the Tesla-level energy. The type of download that moves humanity an inch (or more) forward into the future.

• • Frequent Spiritual Downloads 🔁

Then there are those—like me—who receive this type of guidance often. We are open channels who get ideas and insights regularly, and are called to share what comes through.

For me, this happens during what I call transitional moments—when I’m shifting from one space to the next, one task to another, or one state of consciousness to another. I receive downloads in the car, while walking, in the shower, or even brushing my teeth. Actually—this very blog is an example.

Just two hours before sitting down to type it, I received a full stream of insight from my Higher Self specifically about clairintellect. Since this ability is still “new” in terms of language and teaching, I asked for clarity… and it came through while I was brushing my teeth. That’s how clairintellect works—it doesn’t wait for a scheduled time. When the portal opens, the message drops in.

If your field is filled with fear-based thinking, conspiracy rhetoric, or ungrounded spiritual teachings, you can unintentionally channel information that feels “true” but is distorted. This is why discernment is everything for the clairintellect intuitive.

If you carry this gift, you must be extra mindful of:
